    EAT MEAN: Life and Sexism

    eatmean:

In the past two years or so I’ve began studying feminism, sexism, queer theory, etc, etc… and the things that have become clear to me have made me so unbelievably awe struck that sometimes things don’t feel real. People’s interactions, demeanors, and behaviors they share with one another have…

John Hoffman is one of my favorite people.

    We’re finally done!

It took three days of shooting and 33 days for Victor to edit this, but we’re finally finished. Enjoy!

Enjoy this video of Victor playing one of his songs in front of my house. The Nuthouse, that is. This is the first in a series of videos featuring impromptu performances in places around the towns where we live. We’ve shot three for Vic and I’d love for us to do more for more artists later on in the future. It’s such a fun thing to do and it’s a great way for us to mix our two passions: music and filmmaking.

On the technical side of things, we’ve got me as cam-op with our Canon T2i. We’re running a second set up for sound, which is our Audio Technica Pro24cm running into our Tascam DR-05, all sitting on a tripod out of frame. Overall, I’m stoked with the sound on all the videos, considering all the additional noise we were bringing into our setup by filming on sidewalks with cars driving past and what not.

You can listen to Victor’s song over at http://www.facebook.com/TheMaybeLaters!

    Updates 11/18/11

Well folks, we’ve been throwing stills at you for a few weeks now, and we’ve got one more from our last round of reshoots. Yep. Reshoots for a two minute sketch.

All of our shooting is done on this and in about a week our new computer will arrive and we’ll finish up with editing and release it to all of you!

Victor’s also written a follow up short that we’ll start work on shortly. It’s completely written and cast, so that’ll be fun.

In other news, the first three episodes of the hit series “Patriot Cops” have been written and we’ll begin principal photography in January.

    Stay Tuned,

    Nick

    New Sketch!

Last night we got done wrapping up day one of shooting on our new sketch, written and directed by Victor. We had a bunch of friends come out to play extras and it was really fun to be a part of. This was the first time where I felt like I was on a real set, we had lighting setups, sets, and extras. It was all pretty intense but it was pretty damn exciting. We’ve still got another day of shooting before we wrap and go into editing, but I’m pretty sure everyone will enjoy it.

In the meantime, enjoy this still from the set.

    Patriot Cops Update

Just a quick update because we like you to be involved or whatever. The first episode of “Patriot Cops” has been written and the second episode is in the works. The first two episodes create a little story arc. We’re pretty pleased with how it’s going and we’ve got a lot of ideas for the continuation of the series. We’ve even started casting!

    Stay tuned,

    Nick

Here’s a sneak peak at our upcoming series, Patriot Cops. A script is in the works, and a ton of ideas are forming. This is gonna be a lot of fun.

    An Introduction to the Walrus

Well, another day is ending here at Ultra Walrus HQ, and Victor, my partner in crime and one of my best friends is performing some sort of sexual assault on my girlfriend just a few feet behind me. I just heard her yell “fuck fuck fuck!” and a minute ago he asked her what she wanted in her taco.

This is what I deal with. Clearly I’m the only professional here.

This is the first post in my (our) blog on filmmaking through Ultra Walrus Productions. Ultra Walrus is basically me, Nick Valcich, and the aforementioned Victor Valdez. Separately we’ve both written a few scripts, and I’ve even shot a few short videos before, but now we’re pooling our talents to write and develop our new ideas. We’ve finally got a decent camera and some other equipment and we’re ready to see what we can do.

Eventually we’ll tackle a feature film, but before that we’re taking on different projects as a sort of practice. Anyone familiar with my old stuff will immediately recognize our first short film. From the vaults, we’ve dug up and revised the old Gorilla Man: The Movie script and we’re ready to begin shooting in November. Originally written in 2009, the script definitely needed some work, but it’s been updated and we’re happy with it. We’ve got a cast and crew lined up, and we’ll be doing our absolute best to not fuck anything up.

We’ll be using this blog so that our friends and (for lack of a better term) fans can follow along with all of our pre- and post-production and all the fun stuff in between.

Also, I just kissed Victor. On the lips. So let’s do this.
